Mission
To ensure the uninterrupted availability of steam while
complying with environmental and safety standards.
Description
Steam is produced using 2 VU Combustion Engineering boilers
built in 1941. Over the years, these boilers have been
upgraded from pulverized coal as a combustible fuel, to
heavy fuel oil or natural gas. Eight Peabody APR 19 Venturi
burners allow us to produce, using either fuel oil or natural
gas, 120,000 kg of saturated steam per hour (265,000 pounds
per hour), at a working pressure of 1,100 kPa (160 lb).
Total steam production
(with TMP)in 2004 reached 613,624,000 kg. In order to produce
the steam required for drying the paper sheet, heating the
mill and meeting other equipment needs for steam, we burned
the following amounts of combustible fuel:
- Heavy fuel oil: 15,557,740 litres
- Natural gas:3,646,268 cubic metres
According to Gazifère, a natural
gas company, the average annual amount of natural gas consumed
in a single-family home in the Outaouais region is approximately
2,000 cubic metres for heating the home and 800 cubic metres
for heating water. In 2004, our boiler burned 3,646,268 cubic
metres of natural gas, which equates to what would be used
by 1,302 homes.
