Mission
Provide the cores for the newsprint machine on a timely
basis. Wrap and ship the rolls of paper with due regard of
customer specifications.
Description
Wrapping and Shipping covers three areas: the core room
(the cores are the cardboard tubes around which new paper
is wound), the wrapping equipment and the shipping facilities.
In the core room, we take the cores received from our suppliers
and prepare them to meet our customers’ needs and requirements.
We prepare approximately 1180 cores on a daily basis, cutting
them to various lengths using Lar Machinery and Berlin Foundry
equipment.
Our Lamb 1971 packaging system, which has undergone several
improvements over the years, wraps about 1180 rolls of paper
every day. In May 2000, we installed a Motoman robot, a Lamb
hydraulic upender hoist and two new loading docks.
The Shipping department operates 24 hours per day, 7 days
per week. Our order management is such that we can load directly
from production instead of maintaining an inventory, which
is advantageous from several points of view. All paper rolls
are handled using electric forklifts so as to eliminate the
emissions generated by gas-powered lifts. On average, we
load 30 trucks per day in addition to shipping several rail
cars on a weekly basis. |
